To Err Is Human

By Regina Marie

Growing up I always wanted to use a pen because that’s what adults used…children used pencils. But then I got older and realized the value of a pencil. Years ago, I started writing with a pencil in my address book, on my calendar at home as well as on my work calendar. When my friends moved or changed phone numbers, I could erase the information and input the rest. If I made a mistake, I could erase it. The pencil eraser becomes a tool of value until you can no longer erase your mistakes.

But life is sloppy. We make mistakes and can’t always erase them. But we have a God who knows we are not perfect, who accepts us for who we are, mistakes and all. When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are given the opportunity to confess our sins and ask for forgiveness. When he forgives our sins, they have been erased. No matter how bad our mistake is, He will forgive you when you come wholeheartedly to Him and ask for forgiveness. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9 He is not only the Father and the Son, but He has placed the Holy Spirit to live within us to help lead, guide, and direct our lives so that we can make less mistakes.

Today, accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Confess your sins. Ask for forgiveness. And walk in comfort knowing that your sins have been forgiven and that you can start off with a clean slate, given another chance to walk the intended path. Dear Heavenly Father- Thank you for giving me another opportunity to redeem myself in you. You are a forgiving God, one who knows I am not perfect. Please help me help others to find this comfort and peace in knowing that you are a loving father who loves His children. Give me the right words to say to lead them to you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
