My Friend… You Will Be Found

There are certain songs that both move me and remind me of someone. You Will Be Found, by Pasek and Paul, is such a song. This song has the words I’d say to my friend, Lori, if I was eloquent enough.

 

A little less than two years ago, I almost moved back to my home state of Kentucky, I was beaten, hurt, damaged more than I could take, and had about given up on life altogether. I was just a week away from that move. Months earlier I met a girl online, on a dating site. Her name was Lori. She remembered I use to be an investigator, and was about to rent her master bedroom out to a guy that in her words, gave her the creeps. I recalled that she lived in the area I had business in and liked. On a whim, I wrote, just rent it to me. She did. That day changed my life forever.

 

I really did not know her, she and I didn’t speak again. As I moved my things in, I knew she was guarded and had, in her past, been hurt badly. Some damage can be seen on the outside. Hers was this kind of damage. The next day, I was in the den working from my laptop, she text me… I’ll never forget her words. “There are Girl Scout cookies on the microwave stand, you may have two of them if you like. There it was. She had been taken advantage of before. My goal from that day forward was to show her what a real friend looked like. We both needed one.

 

What evolved over time was the closest friendship I’ve ever had. She’s family now, even to my family. We travel together, go on adventures, and do life together every day. Investing in one another more as we go. We even have a small business together. She is the sister I never had. I can tell her anything without being judged and she can do the same with me. The twist of fate happened in a moment. I often wonder what my life would have been like had I not received that text from a stranger that day. We saved one another and we both have more love in our lives.

 

My roommate and friend, faces giants every day, with bravery I have never witnessed before. She cares about me, who I date, what is happening in my life, and if I’ve eaten or not. We make sure we are both ok, no matter what is going on in our own lives. Our friendship is both simple and elegant at the same time. I heard this song and wanted her to hear it to. From me to you, you will be found sweetie…

 

Find someone like I have, a person that will stand by you through anything, as I would her. Everyone is looking for a romantic partner, I found a friend. A real one.
