Atlanta: Thousands of students go Back to School today

It is back to school time for thousands of students across metro Atlanta.

Protecting more than 50,000 students in more than 100 Atlanta City Schools is a big responsibility for chief Ronald Applin.

The chief covered a number of topics, including training teachers for an active shooter situation.

The chief is an expert instructor on active shooter situations and will train classroom teachers.

He also has a plan to keep weapons out of schools.

There are two officers assigned to each high school and one officer to each middle school.

The department is also getting body cameras.

  1. It saddens me that this even has to be taught to our schools. I’m glad it is a training program. At the same time I’m also glad that I don’t have a child in school!
