WOW! Council Member Votes to Deny Citizen Right to Vote

By Kenneth Stepp

When the vote came up to put a referendum on the November ballot so citizens could vote for or against allowing package (liquor) stores in the city, council member Solange Destang voted NO. This was not a vote whether to allow liquors stores or not to allow them. This was a vote to put a referendum on the ballot so that voters in the city could make that decision.

Even after this was explained to Destang she voted NO. It’s a sad day when an elected official chooses to deny citizens the right to vote on an issue. Especially when state law specifies the process. Voters should remember this the next time council elections roll around. See for yourself. Watch the video of the Snellville city council August 8 meeting.
