“Don’t just sit there and Tweet the race card every time”. That was Bruce Levell’s response to Representative Sheila Jackson Lee’s claim that the furor over her being given another passenger’s seat on a United Airlines flight was inspired by racism. Lee stated, “Since this was not any fault of mine, the way the individual continued to act appeared to be, upon reflection, because I was an African American woman, seemingly an easy target with the African American flight attendant who was very, very nice.”
Levell is a member of President Trump’s 2020 Advisory Board, an Executive Director of the President’s National Diversity Coalition and past chairman of the Gwinnett GOP. In an interview on Fox Business, Levell pointed out that rather than playing the race card, she would better serve her constituents by working to reduce the 10% unemployment rate in her district.
That’s not likely to happen because apparently, Lee frequently pulls the entitlement card in addition to the race card. According to radio show host Larry O’connor, “Washingtonian Magazine in DC, a left-leaning publication, year after year, she wins the poll as the most hated congressperson. this has nothing to do with race, it has to do with the arrogance and entitled attitude of most incumbents in Washington, DC who like to walk up to a counter and say don’t you know who I am?”
For her part, Jean-Marie Simon, the passenger who lost her first class seat to Lee states that race was absolutely not an issue. she noted, ““That could have been Donald Duck in my seat.” I could not see who had boarded the flight. I didn’t even know who she was.” In fact, there are other reasons that indicate race was absolutely not a factor in Simon’s complaint about her treatment; she is a Democrat and a civil rights advocate.
In Lee’s eyes, that is undoubtedly irrelevant as her focus appears to be on herself rather than on her constituents. She would do well to give Bruce Levell’s comment serious consideration.
