Dekalb: Former corrections officer convicted of rape recaptured

Fox 5 Atlanta

 – The former DeKalb County corrections officer who was convicted of rape and other charges, but absconded before being sentenced to 45 years in prison is finally back in custody.

Charles Pinckney was convicted on Oct. 30, 2017, of statutory rape, child molestation, and sexual battery. The conviction was in relation to a rape of a 15-year-old girl on Dec. 20, 2016. A judge sentenced him to 45 years in prison, but not before he went on the run.

According to the district attorney, the girl was approached by Pinckney outside of an apartment complex on Dec. 19 and lured her into his car by offering a warm place to sit as she waited on a friend.

Authorities said when she entered the car, Pinckney drove to his apartment in the 700 block of Hammond Drive in Atlanta. He fed her, told her to take a shower, and then forced her to have sex, according to police.

The victim told authorities that she said no, and tried to fight him off. Officials said that Pinckney bit her chest and held her down by her wrists. He later drove the victim back to where picked her up, according to authorities.

The victim told her mother that she had been raped, and she was quickly rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.

Pinckney was arrested on Feb. 4, 2016, and maintained the sex was consensual. According to police, he fled during the trial’s closing augments on Oct. 27, 2017.

Pinckney was captured in California last month by the Corona Police Department after officers said they discovered Pinckney was in possession of fake bank cards and ID’s that he was using to withdraw funds at a bank branch. He was charged with burglary and fraud charges on Sept. 14. After being fingerprinted, Pinckney’s true identity was released.

He is currently being held in Riverside County, California charged with burglary in the second degree, alter/forgery/false id, non-sufficient funds: checks, impersonating another to get money/property, and fugitive from justice (Fulton County, Georgia)

The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office will be making arraignments to bring Pinckney back to Georgia.

Fulton County Sheriff Ted Jackson expressed his thanks to the Corona Police Department for capturing him.
