STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) – The DeKalb County School District says one of its students shot and killed another on Thursday.
According to school officials, a Stephenson High School 9th grader shot a 12th grader from the same school. The district says the shooting happened at the freshman’s home but actually stemmed from a fight at the school.
On Wednesday, four or five boys got into an altercation in the Stephenson school bus lane. DeKalb County police told FOX 5 on Thursday, just after noon, they responded to a house and found an unresponsive male victim of a gunshot wound. Paramedics rushed him to the hospital, where he died.
Police said they have a person in custody, but haven’t released any information about that person. They do confirm the shooting appears to have stemmed from a dispute, and say they’ve interviewed numerous people in connection with the case.
A crisis team will be at Stephenson Friday to help students and staff cope with what has happened. School police are also working with DeKalb police on the investigation.
