Life After Divorce . . . If You Could Read My Mind

 By Lindy Earl

If you could read my mind, you would never have left.  You would have seen how much I loved you.  You would have seen how important you were to me.

If you could read my mind you would never have doubted how I felt.  Did I fail to show it?  Did I not smile when you entered the room? Did I not run to you for a kiss?  Didn’t I hug you like I would never see you again when you were only leaving for work?

If you could read my mind you would have seen the laughter every time I thought of you.  You would see my heart grow larger every day to hold the amount of love I had for you.

If you could read my mind, you wouldn’t have misunderstood my words.  You wouldn’t have misunderstood my silences – I wasn’t being moody or defiant, I was confused and didn’t want to make matters worse.  If you could read my mind, you would have known.

If you could read my mind you would have known that you were my everything.  That my delight was in your smile and my fear was in your frown.

If you could read my thoughts now you would run back to me.   You would be sad that you had caused me, caused us, so much pain, yet grateful that I still feel the same.

If you could read my future thoughts, you would see your loss, as well as my loss.  You would know that we can never have what we once had.

If you could read my thoughts, you would know that, while we are no longer an Us, I only want the best for you.  I want you to find your true love and find happiness forever.  If you could read my mind you would know that you have always been first in my thoughts, even at the cost of my own identify and happiness.  Maybe it’s good that you can’t read my mind.

  1. Lindy, I’m always amazed how you can put into words exactly how I feel or have felt!
