Police: Man who shot ex, stabbed K9 officer headed to court Monday

From Fox 5 Atlanta

 – Police in Clayton County have arrested a man who they allege murdered his live-in girlfriend and then stabbed a K9 officer during a manhunt.

Officers were called to the Brookstone Apartments on the 1000 block of Garden Walk Boulevard Sunday morning around 9:30 a.m. after reports that there were shots fired. When the officers entered the apartment, they found a woman lying on the floor with multiple bullet wounds.

By the time medics arrived at the scene, the unidentified woman was dead.

After an investigation, police determined that the shooting was a domestic incident. Authorities say the victim had traveled to the apartment with a family member to get her things from the apartment after a break up and was confronted by suspect Randy Young.

According to the family member, the suspect was holding a gun. Police say Young then fired at them, hitting the woman while they attempted to get away.

Police say Young then fled on foot. He was later tracked by Clayton County Sheriff’s deputies to a area near Allen Drive in Riverdale.

During this manhunt, Young stabbed K9 Officer Odin twice in the neck and jaw before being subdued, officials said.

Officers then recovered a firearm and a knife from the suspect.

Young was arrested five hours after the shooting in a wooded area near Allen Drive in Riverdale. He’s facing charges of malice murder, felony obstruction, aggravated assault, cruelty to animals, and injury to a police dog.

Young will head to court Monday morning.

Medics transported K9 Officer Odin to a local animal hospital where he is in stable condition.
