From Fox 5 Atlanta

 – A South Fulton police officer is in the hospital after being shot during an attempted robbery Saturday morning.

Officials told FOX 5 the shooting happened around 5:06 a.m. near the intersection of Jesse Hill Drive and John Wesley Dobbs Avenue in northeast Atlanta.

Police say two suspects tried to rob a man, who turned out to be an off-duty police officer.

“What we believe was an attempted robbery, we had two to three suspects approach our victim,” Atlanta Police Deputy Chief Jeff Glazier said.

The victim, the yet-to-be identified officer from South Fulton, was cornered near his vehicle after leaving a nightspot on John Wesley Dobbs. Officials told FOX 5 the officer grabbed his service weapon from his vehicle, resulting in a shootout between the officer and the would-be robbers.
