Federal agents announced a discovery of dozens of weapons, drugs and ammunition on a large Hall County property Thursday.
Agents said a search warrant related to a drug investigation in Roswell led authorities to a 42-acre property off Old Cornelia Highway in Northern Hall County, north of the city of Gainesville.
Agents said there were a number of storage buildings on the property and even an underground bunker.
Over a search lasting the entire day, authorities said they seized more than 50 rifles, a WWI-era machine gun, 50 pounds of marijuana with a street value of about $35,000, 20 handguns, Xanax pills, and raw material to make more “street drugs” formed into what appear to be prescription pills.
Investigators said a number of the rifles had sawed-off barrels, which are illegal, and items such as silencers require special permits.
The property also housed a number of farm animals, dogs and cats.
“Obviously they had some farm equipment, and they were trying to conceal their operation,” said Chad Cook, a special agent with the Atlanta Office of the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Officials said the discovery stemmed from an investigation with Roswell Police surrounding fentanyl production and the drug distributed in pill form on the streets. The investigation led to the warrant for the property in Hall County.
Authorities are working to determine the purpose of the facility other than storage, and who is responsible for the property. The guns will be turned over to the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agency to determine where they came from, and what individuals intended for them.
No arrests have been made.
