Single Again… Somewhere Out There

By Kenneth Stepp

I often say that she’s looking for me like I am her. What if we already know? What if we already tried? What if we failed? Tragic as it sounds, this is my belief. I was her him and she was my her, yet, we remain apart. There are seasons when we don’t even feel like friends. I want to give you a song that has been ringing in my head for days. It reminds me of us. I’ve never stopped to read the words. These poets can say it better than me.

Somewhere out there beneath the pale moonlight

Someone’s thinking of me and loving me tonight

Somewhere out there someone’s saying a prayer

That we’ll find one another in that dream somewhere out there

And even though I know how very far apart we are

It helps to think we might be wishin’ on the same bright star

And when the night wind starts to sing a lonesome lullaby

It helps to think we’re sleeping underneath the same big sky

Somewhere out there, if love can see us through

Then we’ll be together somewhere out there

Out where dreams come true

And even though I know how very far apart we are

It helps to think we might be wishin’ on the same bright star

And when the night wind starts to sing a lonesome lullaby

It helps to think we’re sleeping underneath the same big sky

Somewhere out there, if love can see us through

Then we’ll be together somewhere out there

Out where dreams come true

Out where dreams come true… Can they not come true here? The longer I’m single, the singler I become. She and I have walls, so high, so wide, most we built brick by brick. Many we added to one another’s.

I’ve heard it said that if it’s meant to be it will be. Is she praying for me? I am her. I often wonder if she can feel me. I know I do her. To finally find love and discard it seems so anticlimactic to me. The search, the heartbreaks, disappointments and all the rest. To reach the goal and not see it because of our walls.

Anyway, this song has haunted me for a while. We have all loved and lost, we survive. But what do we do next? Please take time to click the video below and feel a new emotion from the song. Read along if you like. It tugs at my heart every time I hear it.

The singles journey places each of us a heart’s reach away from our forever love. What we do with that will create our future one way or the other. Failing means, for me at least, trying to find forever in someone else. But the tug of the past is so powerful, even when there is no future there. Enjoy the ride my friends.
